What we do with your information, in plain language.
This page explains, simply, what Outleap holds about you, how AI is used to help with your work, who can see it, and the choices you have. It is written for students and parents. Your school decides how your data is used; we look after it for them.
Who we are
Outleap, working for your school
Outleap Limited (Company No. 14277395, registered in England and Wales) makes the tools you use to work on your statements, CVs, evidence and applications. Your school decides how your information is used and why. We handle it on your school's behalf and follow their instructions.
What we hold about you
Your account
Your name, email address and the school you belong to, so you can sign in and your teachers know whose work they are looking at.
The work you do
The evidence you add, and the drafts of your personal statement, CV, cover letters and applications. This is your work, and it stays yours.
The feedback on your work
The feedback you receive, and notes about your progress, so you and your teachers can see how your work is coming along.
How AI is used
It helps you with your own work
AI helps you draft, structure and improve your writing, and gives you feedback on it. It works on the things you are already doing. The work stays yours, in your words.
It is a suggestion, not a verdict
The feedback is advice to help you improve. It is not a grade, a decision or a final judgement, and it does not decide anything about your future. Your teachers stay in charge of guiding you.
Staff are always there
If anything you write looks concerning, it is always passed to a member of staff at your school. Your work is never used to train AI models.
Who can see your work
You, and the staff who support you
You can see your own work. So can the staff at your school who help you with it. Your information stays within your school. Students at other schools cannot see it.
Keeping it safe
Stored securely
Your information is stored securely on Google Cloud in the UK and EU. It is encrypted, so it is protected on its way to and from the platform and while it is stored.
Access limited by role
People can only see what their role allows. Students see their own work; staff see the students they support. No one gets more access than they need.
Your choices and rights
See, correct or delete your data
You can ask to see the information we hold about you, to have it corrected if it is wrong, or to have it deleted. The easiest way is to ask your school, who can also contact us. You can also email us directly at info@outleap.io.
Raise a concern
If you are unhappy with how your information has been handled, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK's data protection regulator, at ico.org.uk.
A quick thing to remember
Only add information that is relevant to your statements, CVs and applications. If you want to name another person in your work, ask their permission first.
